Congratulations guys. Well played.

Women's Friday Morning Tennis Group

After a break of over a year, this group is up and running again.  Lorraine Bateman is the coordinator, and arranged to play from 10-12am.  However, last week several players turned up at 9am immediately after the school drop-off.  Others arrived at 10 and including the coffee break the session lasted almost 3 hours.  Members are invited to come along for a bit of 'fun' tennis and relaxation on Fridays - its a great way to start the day.  Just turn up or you can text Lorraine 07969-844887 to check in advance and let her know you are coming.

Ladies Team lands first trophy for Cloughey & District

Cloughey & District ladies team won the final of the Ladies Junior Knockout Cup at Bangor defeating Whitehead 3-1.  Captain Hazel Young had to find a last minute replacement for Elaine Bunting  who had helped the team win their way through to the final.  Club Secretary Carol Clark stepped in after a 2-year absence with injury.  Vicky Bentley and Carol steered the team to victory winning their first match 6-2 6-3 while Hazel and Christina Hinds lost their first match by a similar margin, but then won the 'reverse' match by 6-1 6-2.  It was then up to Vicky and Carol who lost their first set in the decisive match by 2-6 but then won the second set by 6-3.  The third tie-breaker set was not required, as Cloughey had by that time an unassailable lead, and were declared winners.

Commenting on the win, Club Chairman Alistair Dunn congratulated the team on their success and said they had taken a big step forward that would put Cloughey & District Tennis Club 'on the map' in Ulster Tennis.

Junior Clubplay welcomes visiting coach from England

On Saturday 8th Aug, coaches Alistair and Christina were joined by John Robertson, an LTA level 2 coach from England, who happened to be on holiday visiting friends in Cloughey.  He volunteered to help us with Junior coaching and demonstrated some stimulating drills and routines that had the kids working really hard - and enjoying themselves. This was a very pleasant surprise and thoroughly enjoyable for eveyone involved.  Many thanks to John and we hope he comes back to Cloughey for another holiday!

CLOUGHEY BOYS GRAB TROPHIES AT NORTH DOWN u12 TOURNAMENT

The North Down Juniors tournament 2014 held at Bangor LTC is part of the summer series of open tournaments held in NI.  This is the 2nd year our juniors have entered. Last year the Bunting brothers (Josh & Joel) met in the final of the U12 Novice Plate competition. This year, the U12 Novice event was won by Ross Jenkinson who defeated hot favourite Mckenzie Conor from Lisburn in a tense and exciting final 7-6, 6-4.  Ross Jenkinson & Joel Bunting also won the U12 doubles event, with another great performance, again defeating a fancied pair to lift the trophy.

Josh Bunting, now in the u14 category, fought through several tough matches to reach the semi-final where he defeated Lokesh Pugalengthi from Helens Bay in a match that lastedover 3 hours.   In the final he took the first set and anearly lead in the second set, but tiredness caught up with him and he had to settle for 2nd place - a very creditable achievement at this level.
