Ards North Down Tennis group holds first junior tournament
19 Juniors from several different clubs in the Ards North Down area participated in a ‘green ball’ tournament (for U10s and U12s) on Sunday 18th October. The event was organised and hosted by Cloughey & District TC, but held at Bangor Tennis Club to take advantage of the larger number of courts.
Although the event clashed with Ireland’s World Cup rugby quarter final, many parents stayed outside watching the tennis even though the match was on TV in the clubhouse!
The Boys U12 event was won by Max Jenkinson (Cloughey), with Lucas Miskimmin of Donaghadee coming top in the Boys U10 competition. Bangor’s Joy Ebbinghaus won the Girls event.
This was the first event organised through the Ards North Down Tennis group which includes all 5 tennis clubs in the District (Cloughey & District; St Pats Newtownards; Donaghadee; Helen’s Bay; and Bangor). Combined events provide a great forum for junior players from smaller clubs to meet and compete with a wider group of budding tennis stars. Other junior events are planned over the Winter months – tennis is an all-year-round sport!
Girls U12s medal-winners: Bronze - Ciara Fitzsimons (Cloughey); Gold – Joy Ebbinghaus (Bangor);
