LET'S GET COMPETITIVE....

Fee £5 per session

Individual 1-2-1 coaching lessons

This is the most effective way to improve your game though you will also have to practice between lessons to get the most from them.  Our Club coach offers private lessons to all grades from junior red-ball beginners to intermediate league-standard players.  The fee for an individual lesson is £15 for 45mins (£20 for non-members)  Contact Alistair Dunn ring/text 07801-374444 or email:   adunn1001 at gmail dot com.

Coaching is essential for anyone who wants to reach their potential and enjoy the game.  Tennis is not much fun if you have to spend most of your time picking up balls from the back of the court.   Attending a group class for beginners will give a grounding in the basic strokes + rules, and enable players to make quick progress to the stage where they can join in with clubplay sessions.

Coaching team

Cloughey is a relatively remote location, and we have found it difficult to persuade tennis coaches to travel from Belfast or North Down for regular coaching classes.  The expense and time taken travelling are usually added to the basic coaching fees and this adds to the overall cost.   Fortunately we now have our own in-house qualified coach - Club chairman Alistair Dunn became a PTR Associate Instructor in 2011 and a Tennis Ireland Level 1 coach in 2014.  Alistair will concentrate on coaching adult beginners and improvers to build up club membership.

Ben Cozen is an expereinced tennis player who recently qualified as a PTR tennis coach and will be in charge of our  Monday evening junior groups.

Christina Hinds who has been assisting Alistair for several years with the juniors qualified as a Tennis Ireland Play & stay Assistant which is the basic qualification for coaching mini-tennis for the U10s with Red, Orange and Green balls.  Christina become a qualified PTR coach in 2016.  She is currently taking a break from coaching but we hope to see her back soon.

Approach to junior coaching...

Since the Club was established in 2008, Club Chairman  Alistair Dunn has undertaken the role of Coach for the junior groups (with help from a small band of dedicated vounteers).   He is a qualified  PTR and TEnnis Ireland Level 1 tennis coach.  Alistair is fully trained in the latest and most progressive 'Play & Stay' approach to coaching juniors, which involves using special slow balls, mini-nets and smaller racquets.  Using this system, players are taught to Serve, Rally, and Score from an early stage and the format of the classes enables the children to get more playing tennis and less standing in a queue waiting their turn.   We aim to make junior coaching a fun experience for kids of all standards.
