Coaching is essential for anyone who wants to reach their potential and enjoy the game.  Tennis is not much fun if you have to spend most of your time picking up balls from the back of the court.   Attending a group class for beginners will give a grounding in the basic strokes + rules, and enable players to make quick progress to the stage where they can join in with clubplay sessions.

Couch to Game-Set-Match 6-Week Program

There is often a Game-Set-Match program with Coach Alistair Dunn.

Currently, there is one onging (Began 25th October 2023) and is suitable for beginners, those have never played, those who may have played years ago, or those who play casually but have never had coaching.  At the end of the 6 weeks you will be playing a competitive doubles match.

All equipment supplied - just wear trainers!

In these game based classes, apart from learning all the basic strokes, the rules of tennis, and etiquette (or guidelines for considerate behaviour), you will get plenty of exercise and play some competitive games.  At the end of the course you will be ready to join in our regular clubplay sessions with more experienced players.

Course fee for 6 lessons is £30 (or £5 per session if not enrolling for whole course)

This is a great way to try out tennis for a very small outlay.   No need to buy expensive equipment as racquets are available on loan - just wear trainers.   Ring/text Alistair on  07801-374444 to register your interest and reserve a place.

Approach to junior coaching

Since the Club was established in 2008, Club Chairman  Alistair Dunn has undertaken the role of Coach for the junior groups (with help from a small band of dedicated vounteers).  Alistair is fully trained in the latest and most progressive 'Play & Stay' approach to coaching juniors, which involves using slow balls, mini-nets and smaller racquets.  Using this system, players are taught to Serve, Rally, and Score from an early stage and the format of the classes enables the children to get more playing tennis and less standing in a queue waiting their turn.   We aim to make junior coaching a fun experience for kids of all standards.
