New courts launch event - Tie-break Tennis Tens Tournament

To celebrate our new facilities, the Club organised an invitation tournament on 14/10/2017, with 8 of the top players in Ulster Tennis.  The event was attended by Tennis Ireland CEO Richard Fahy and Ulster Tennis President George Stevenson.  Also there was Robert Adair, Mayor of Ards & North Down Borough Council who own the facility and commissioned the redevelopment of the tennis courts.

Over 80 specators watched a fast-paced tournament using a tie-break format and the players coming onto court pumped up by the sound of their own chosen music.  The tournament was won by current Ulster Senior and Junior champion Jordan McKeown  of AGP who overcame runner-up Alex Watt also of AGP, in a great final.

Presentation area set up for the day by Club members with signs provided by sponsors Playrite, suppliers of the new court surface.

Richard Fahy (Tennis Ireland), Robert Adair (Mayor) , George Stevenson (UBTI President), Jim shannon MP, Alistair Dunn (Club Chairman).

The players were presented to the crowd with their bios before the tournament.  Here is  Romain Pollissier  enjoying the razzmatazz.  Romain is from St Tropez in France and currently playing with Donaghadee Tennis Club.

It was a joy to watch the matches all played in good spirit with no bad language, no bad temper, no throwing of rackets, in line with Cloughey's policy of zero toleration.  As you can see from the photos the players were enjoying themselves and the super new outdoor carpet surface
